Dermatology

I am a Specialty Doctor in Dermatology at NHS Forth Valley, working across general dermatology, skin cancer assessment, minor surgery, paediatrics, and inflammatory skin disease clinics. My work spans the full spectrum of dermatological care — from diagnosing and treating common skin conditions to managing complex, rare, and severe presentations — for patients of all ages.

I have applied for entry to the specialist register as a consultant dermatologist via the Portfolio Pathway and anticipate becoming a consultant dermatologist by the end of 2025.

I believe dermatology is as much about listening and understanding as it is about diagnosis and treatment. Whether addressing a medical skin condition, supporting healthy ageing, or helping patients navigate the pressures of social media-driven beauty culture, my goal is to provide care that is safe, ethical, and tailored to each individual’s needs.

Education and Background

I graduated in Medicine from the University of Edinburgh in 2016, earning multiple academic awards including distinctions and merits in several clinical disciplines. Since then, I have built extensive medical experience across a range of specialties before focusing fully on dermatology. My career has included posts in Glasgow and Stirling, as well as international work in Cambodia and India, giving me a broad and culturally informed perspective on skin health.

My academic and professional development reflects a strong commitment to both clinical excellence and broader healthcare understanding. I hold:

  • Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) and the Specialty Certificate Examination in Dermatology

  • A Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Education from the University of Dundee, with distinctions in multiple modules including professionalism and simulation

  • Certificates in Management and Leadership in Health Services and Leadership in Healthcare & Healthcare Education from the University of Glasgow

  • Training in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Strathclyde, and Health Economics and Health Technology Assessment from the University of Glasgow

  • Completion of numerous specialist dermatology courses, including advanced phototherapy, photodynamic therapy, laser training, cadaveric anatomy for aesthetic medicine, and Biology of the Skin

I am currently in my third year of a Master’s degree in Skin Ageing and Aesthetic Medicine at the University of Manchester, combining scientific insight into the biology of ageing with advanced training in aesthetic procedures, ethics, and patient safety.

Clinical Expertise

I am skilled in diagnosing and managing disorders of the skin, hair, and nails; performing a wide range of skin biopsies and excisions; and delivering treatments such as phototherapy and intralesional steroid injections. My surgical repertoire includes elliptical excisions, flap repairs, full-thickness skin grafts, curettage and cautery, cryotherapy, and shave excisions.

My areas of special interest include:

  • Skin cancer prevention and early detection, supported by my role in the Scottish Government Sunbed Safety Group and membership of the British Association of Dermatologists, British Photodermatology Group, and Scottish Dermatological Society (Executive Committee Member and SAS Representative)

  • Public health dermatology, with a focus on sun safety, patient education, and regulation of high-risk practices such as sunbed use

  • Hair and nail disease diagnosis and management

  • Medical education, delivering structured teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate learners, informed by my membership of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, the British Dermatological Surgery Society, and the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology

  • The influence of social media and digital culture on health — examining how trends, misinformation, and beauty ideals affect patient behaviour and expectations, and exploring how healthcare professionals can respond through accurate, accessible communication.

Academic Work and Presentations

My professional portfolio includes national audit work on melanoma imaging, regional audits on dermatology prescribing and safety, and published research in peer-reviewed journals. I have presented my work at national and international conferences, including the British Association of Dermatologists Annual Meeting and educational talks for professional groups ranging from medical trainees to laser technicians.

I am a regular invited speaker, with presentations covering clinical dermatology, skin cancer prevention, and the CESR pathway. My commitment to ongoing professional development is reflected in my active participation in specialist societies, national committees, and international dermatology congresses.
